The spokesperson for the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and head of the Special Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Relevant Matters, Ulises Lara López, announced the capture of Hilario 'N', alias 'el Chighuas', the alleged material author of the murder of former Colima governor Silverio Cavazos, who was gunned down in November 2010. In a coordinated operation between the FGR's Criminal Investigation Agency and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Hilario 'N' was apprehended in the municipality of Parral, Chihuahua. Authorities managed to locate his vehicle through various investigative techniques, identifying him as a key piece within a criminal organization. 'el Chighuas' is accused of having participated as the material author in the murder of Silverio Cavazos Ceballos, who served as head of the state executive in Colima from 2005 to 2009. The crime occurred on November 21, 2010, in a residential subdivision in that municipality, when an armed man got out of a vehicle and shot the former public servant. In addition to this case, the detainee has several arrest warrants for organized crime and homicide in the states of Jalisco, Chihuahua, Baja California, and Tamaulipas. The FGR emphasized that, in accordance with the National Code of Criminal Procedure Procedures, he will be treated under the principle of presumption of innocence at all stages of the process until a judge determines his responsibility. In 2018, federal authorities reported the arrest of Gerardo 'N', alias 'El Gerardón', who was pointed out as the intellectual author of the crime. The alleged criminal never went to trial, as he was killed a few days after his arrest in a brawl near the kitchen of the Puente Grande prison. Blow to synthetic drug production On the other hand, Dr. Lara López detailed that the federal prosecutor's offices of Michoacán and Sinaloa managed to destroy more than 230 tons of chemical precursors, preventing millions of doses of drugs from reaching the streets. In Michoacán, more than 174 tons of chemicals were disabled, consisting of 76,629 kilograms and 98,060 liters of precursors. Among the substances destroyed are toluene, lead, hydrochloric acid, methamphetamine, ammonium hydroxide, and cocaine. In Sinaloa, authorities destroyed 7,677 kilograms and 53,266 liters of precursors such as lead acetate and sodium cyanide. In this state, the destruction of 504,459 fentanyl tablets, as well as almost 75 kilograms and 70 liters of the same drug, stood out. Likewise, objects used for the synthesis of narcotics, such as reactors, a centrifuge, and a distiller, were dismantled. These seizure and transfer operations had the support of the Security Cabinet, including the Ministry of National Defense, the Navy Secretariat, and the National Guard, who collaborated to transport the substances to a specialized company in the State of Mexico for their destruction.
