Sheinbaum confirms consensus on electoral reform

President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Monday that a consensus had been reached between Morena and allied parties on two points of the electoral reform, which will allow them to move forward with Plan B. She announced that this plan will be sent to Congress on Tuesday. During her morning press conference, the president informed that an agreement had been reached to limit the budgets of local congresses and reduce spending on cabildos in municipalities to generate savings of 4 billion pesos and redirect them to states and municipalities. The president explained that the money saved from these adjustments would not be concentrated in the federal government but would remain in the states and municipalities to finance projects such as paving, hydraulic works, and public services. A survey revealed that the Green Party and the PT voted against the Electoral Reform to 'not lose privileges'. However, she assured that she will not give up on her proposal to reduce 'privileges' to political parties as proposed in the original plan, which was rejected by the PT and the Green Party, causing controversy within Morena. 'We are going to continue defending that,' she said.
