Female Journalists in Querétaro Protest Sexist Comments

Female journalists in the state of Querétaro protested at the Government Palace in response to a sexist comment made in a podcast by the governor. Governor Mauricio Kuri González supported the protest and condemned the offensive comments made by the director of a local newspaper. Female journalists in Querétaro protested at the Government Palace, demanding conditions that guarantee respect for their work and no discrimination within the media. This was in reference to a post by journalist Isabel Posadas on social media, where she criticized the lack of female presence at the event. In response, several media workers attended Governor Mauricio Kuri's press conference on Monday, where they staged a protest against this behavior, which they considered discriminatory and offensive. There, they issued a statement to the head of the executive branch, asking him to establish lines of action that commit to establishing gender equity in the treatment of the media. 'Beyond just inviting colleagues to courses, we want a turning point once and for all where women are considered, received, attended to, that there is the same number of interviews, the same number of agreements for media outlets led by men as for media outlets led by women,' stated Isabel Posadas. Governor Mauricio Kuri backed the women's demands and assured that his government will not tolerate discriminatory acts against women. This came after the director of a local newspaper made a sexist comment in a podcast, downplaying the importance of women in the profession. It was during the last broadcast of the program 'Blanco & Negro,' hosted by a group of communicators, where the director of a local newspaper suggested that no female journalist was invited to a recent meeting organized by a group of communicators because 'they don't matter.' 'This is a topic that should no longer be a topic, but I thank you for being here and putting it on the agenda,' he said. The Secretary of Women, Sonia Rocha, also expressed her support for the communicators and called on workers in the field to take the gender equity courses offered by her department. She assured that female officials represent a determining part of her administration, for which reason she committed to follow up on the requests of journalists through the Government Secretariat. 'Of course, I disapprove of that type of comment that we have seen lately from a communication medium; we will be very attentive and, of course, I commit to you to carry this out.'
