President Claudia Sheinbaum dismissed the authenticity of the images of oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico spread by Greenpeace, and insisted that her government is working to clean up this large body of water, which was affected by a hydrocarbon spill. "Greenpeace is an environmental organization that does not necessarily have scientific data to support what it says. There is a hypothesis (about the accident) but it has to be confirmed, there are other spots that have been identified," she stated. Meanwhile, the head of state announced that the Federal Government will provide support to all fishermen affected by this situation, however, she did not specify what type of support and from when it would be delivered. For its part, the Greenpeace organization spoke out about the situation, explaining that the images recently disseminated were taken by them and were originally produced by the media outlet "El Independiente." "Various media outlets picked them up, claiming they were ours, which is erroneous; however, we take responsibility for having shared the image and regret if this situation caused confusion," they declared. "They uploaded an image a few days ago as if there were a terrible catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, as if the Gulf were full of hydrocarbons," she commented. From the National Palace, the head of state questioned the images disseminated by the environmental organization, since "coincidentally everything seemed to come from Dos Bocas," so she insisted that those images are fake. "That image is false, it has no scientific basis, it is an image that appeared on social networks and has nothing to do with the situation that is really in the Gulf," she said. Support for fishermen due to hydrocarbon spill On the other hand, Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that her administration, from the first moment, is working in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy and Pemex on the cleaning of the hydrocarbon spill, a situation that would have been caused by a private vessel. "Work has been done on cleaning all the beaches, we have been working with the fishermen, the beaches are in very good condition today."
