Deputy Proposes Ban on Municipal Positions Inherited by Relatives

A local PRI deputy has introduced an initiative to amend the municipal government law to prohibit the appointment of close relatives to the position of substitute mayor after an incumbent's departure. This is a response to an incident in Juárez where a husband inherited his wife's post.

Deputy Proposes Ban on Municipal Positions Inherited by Relatives

Local PRI deputy Lorena de la Garza has introduced an initiative to amend the State Municipal Government Law, aiming to close the legal loophole that currently allows direct relatives of a mayor to be appointed as substitute municipal presidents. The legislator explained that the proposal arises from a recent incident in the municipality of Juárez, which revealed a practice that, while not illegal, undermines basic principles of public service. "This is an important step, a consistent step, one that will live up to what the people pointed out this week," she stated.
