Sheinbaum Reports 130,000 Missing Persons in Mexico

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported on the number of missing persons in the country. She stated that the government is strengthening all institutions to prevent and address this crime. Nationally, there are 130,178 missing persons. Sheinbaum mentioned that authorities have arrested 285 individuals on charges of disappearance. Intelligence and cybersecurity agencies are also working daily to shut down websites and online platforms used by organized crime to recruit young people. According to the president, the national registry shows 132,534 missing persons, divided into three categories: 46,742 have 'insufficient data'; 40,308 had 'activities and records' after their disappearance date; and 43,128 had no activity at all, representing the most difficult cases to solve. 'We want to find the missing and provide full support to their families,' Sheinbaum emphasized. She also noted that between 1952 and 2026, authorities confirmed 394,645 disappearance cases, of which 262,111 have been located and 132,534 remain missing.
