Mexican Senator Steps Down from 2027 Race Due to Governor Daughter

Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio announced he will not run in the 2027 elections because his daughter is the governor of Guerrero. He spoke out against nepotism and praised his daughter's performance.

Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio announced that he will not participate in the 2027 elections. The reason is that his daughter currently governs the state of Guerrero. "I have an impediment because my daughter is the governor, but I am proud of her performance," he noted, emphasizing that she remains one of the most highly evaluated officials in the country. Salgado Macedonio also spoke out against nepotism, stating, "We are against nepotism, because no relative should be in power." He also criticized those who have security from the National Guard, pointing out that "when a person is clean, they do not need protection." The senator expressed his satisfaction with the electoral reforms approved in the Senate, considering that although they were not approved in their entirety, significant progress was made. He specified that issues such as the recall of mandate were left for a later stage. "I understand that nepotism implies favoring relatives with administrative positions, which is classified as a crime," he concluded.
