Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio has once again revived tensions within the ruling coalition over candidatures involving family members. He reiterated that the people are in power and, in 2025, will not run for governor of Guerrero because his daughter, Evelyn Salgado, currently holds that office. The senator accused the leadership of the MORENA party of hypocrisy, stating that they themselves keep their entire family in power while officially opposing nepotism. This decision was a result of the anti-nepotism policy promoted by Claudia Sheinbaum. While the Senate banned such candidacies starting in 2030, the MORENA party has already done so for the upcoming elections. Salgado also expressed his frustration, noting that his dream of becoming governor was shattered. A similar situation is unfolding in San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas, where candidacies of relatives of current governors are also being considered.
