The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Nayarit (SSPC) reported that it maintains patrols for surveillance and crime prevention in the mountainous areas of the state, where this Sunday registered hail and snow in high-altitude areas. According to the department, elements of the State Police are conducting permanent tours on roads and hard-to-reach communities with the aim of inhibiting criminal behavior, reinforcing institutional presence and serving the population in a timely manner. In images released by the corporation, officers are seen traversing fords covered in ice, mud, and vegetation, amidst low temperatures and adverse weather conditions. The patrols are carried out at various points in the mountainous region, mainly in municipalities such as Huajicori and Del Nayar, where geographical conditions often make it difficult to access communities, especially in the face of atypical weather phenomena. The Secretariat stated that these actions are part of a permanent surveillance strategy to strengthen security in remote localities, where it also seeks to maintain constant communication with residents and respond to any citizen reports. In addition to security patrols, personnel from Citizen Protection and Firefighters maintain monitoring in the mountainous areas to address any eventuality derived from low temperatures, the presence of ice on roads and paths, as well as possible mobility issues. Authorities urged the population living or traveling through these regions to take extreme precautions, especially during the early morning and at night, when temperatures drop and the chances of encountering slippery surfaces increase. According to the National Weather Service (SMN), this Sunday conditions persisted for hail to fall in states in the west of the country, including Nayarit, due to the presence of a high-altitude trough, low-pressure channels, and atmospheric instability. The forecast also contemplates heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour in the entity. Finally, local residents reported the need to send support with clothing and food for people in vulnerable situations. Authorities asked the population to take extreme precautions and stay tuned to official channels.
