Mexico Ready to Sell Oil to Cuba

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the country is willing to sell oil to Cuba. She emphasized that the friendship between the island and Mexico predates US sanctions. 'Before the Cuban Revolution, Cuba was one of the few countries that showed solidarity with Mexico regarding the oil expropriation,' she highlighted. Sheinbaum also noted that private companies, such as hotels, are interested in purchasing Mexican fuel to supply Cuba's private sector. Meanwhile, Mexico is raising funds through the 'Humanidad con América Latina' association to aid Cuba. The president personally donated 20,000 pesos to this fund. Amid this, Cuba will face prolonged power outages on March 30, as the power deficit is expected to reach 1,820 megawatts. It is estimated that 60% of the island will be affected. The energy crisis in Cuba has been exacerbated by the Trump administration's ban on oil shipments, which began in January.
