Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the main goal of conversations, especially with President Trump, is to strengthen trade between the United States and Mexico, and where there is no agreement, it should be replaced with the import of goods. "The amount of products and goods has increased, not all to the same level, but they have been replaced... Mexico is among the countries with the most exports in the world," she added. Additionally, prior to concluding her morning press conference, as a gesture against the President of the United States, Claudia Sheinbaum backed Pope Leo XIV following Trump's remarks. "A very strong letter was written and there was a statement from the Secretariat of Foreign Relations to the United States. There are citizens whose only crime is not having papers," she added. While she noted that there are differences with President Donald Trump on the migratory strategy, she stated that they are advancing well economically. "In the last year, due to the tariffs or the model implemented by President Trump, it has mainly complicated the production of aluminum. The investigation must be done by the government of the United States... There has been no response to the cases... the complaints within the United States, the Human Rights Commissions, international tribunals, we are doing everything possible internationally," she said. Sheinbaum highlighted that Mexico has increased its exports, being the top buyer of products from the United States. "Unjust is he who accumulates wealth and remains indifferent to others," she stated. "Our world needs men and women of faith, thirsty for justice and unity... sharing what one has is a matter of justice," she added. She emphasized that Mexico is one of the main exporting countries in the world and is already seeking agreements on tariffs in the face of the USMCA review. Following the death of another Mexican national in an ICE detention center in the United States, President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the action and assured that she instructed the Secretariat of Foreign Relations to intensify daily monitoring. "In the case of the complaints, we have supported the families with complaints to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and we are looking at other instances to see these complaints," she said. "Now that there has been this recent debate, it is worth showing the vision of Pope Leo," she added. "I instructed all consuls, where there are ICE detention centers, to visit the centers daily, they used to do it weekly, but now there will be at least one person from the consulate per center and that the Secretary of Foreign Relations communicates so that they are there daily and attend to our fellow citizens," she commented. She also pointed out impunity in the 15 cases of people who have died in these facilities. "This vision of justice is simple and radical: it recognizes in the other the image of God," the president recited from the Catholic leader and concluded her conference leaving some press questions unanswered.
