The Minister of the Supreme Court Alerts About Judicial Risks

The President Minister of the Supreme Court, Norma Lucía Piña, warned about the dangers of the politicization of justice and the disappearance of the judicial career, stating that this not only impacts citizens but also undermines trust in the judicial system. During the inauguration of the Ibero-American Congress on Constitutional Law, Piña expressed her concern about the effects that the judicial reform could have on constitutional democracy.

In her words, the minister called for maintaining fidelity to convictions and defending judicial autonomy. She alerted about the possible risks posed by the so-called judicial reform and mentioned the "strong shifts of course" that are taking place in Constitutionalism. Norma Piña pointed out that there is evidence of the risk that human rights face when power cannot be contained, confronted, and controlled.

Piña emphasized that one of the objectives of an independent power is to protect human rights and act as a counterweight to the exercise of power. The President Minister also shared the concerns of judges and magistrates regarding the negative effects that the implementation of the judicial reform could have in Mexico, mentioning the loss of the right to impartial justice and the danger faced by the human rights of citizens.
