Senate Heads Evaluation Process for Judicial Appointments

The Senate is responsible for leading the evaluation for the judicial election, as Gerardo Fernández Noroña mentioned in a press conference. The aim is to select high-level and prestigious profiles in the field of law to convey a powerful message to the citizenry. The call stipulates that the committees of the three powers must be established by no later than October 31.

Fernández Noroña assured that impartial and highly qualified profiles will be sought to fill the positions of judges. He highlighted the importance of having top-tier individuals in these roles. He also mentioned that both chambers, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, will work together to pass the pending secondary laws and coordinate future reforms more efficiently.

So far, the Legislative branch has only approved reforms to the Laws of Electoral Institutions and Procedures and of Means of Legal Challenge. Regarding Judge Nancy Juárez's order to withdraw the judicial reform from the Official Federal Diary, the Senate president backed Claudia Sheinbaum and criticized Juárez, labeling her as a figure of the right.

In relation to the designation of members of the Evaluation Committee that will assess judicial candidates, Fernández Noroña warned Ricardo Monreal, president of the Political Coordination Board of the lower Chamber, that the Senate will lead this process. He pointed out the need to prevent the committee from becoming biased and stated his opposition to it becoming a group of partisan activists.
