The president of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed the resignation of the Attorney General of the state of Guanajuato, Carlos Zamarripa, who held the position for 15 years in a state currently facing high levels of insecurity. The news was announced by the governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, highlighting that the departure of the attorney represents a necessary step to cleanse the Attorney General's Office and improve the administration of justice in the region.
In this regard, García Muñoz also confirmed the collaboration between the Federal Government and the state to work on pacifying Guanajuato, addressing the causes of insecurity and seeking to reduce crime indicators such as homicides, thefts, and extortions, as well as improve the minimum wage to bring it closer to the national average. This strategy is expected to produce progressive results and consolidate coordination among the state cabinet, the public prosecutors, and the judicial system.
In previous press conferences, both President Sheinbaum and the Federal Government have pointed out Guanajuato as one of the states with the highest crime rates in the country, attributing this to the influence of the National Action Party (PAN), the main opposition party. In response, efforts have intensified in municipalities such as Celaya and León, as well as in other localities in Guanajuato, with the aim of preventing the expansion of criminal activities and strengthening security measures in conjunction with municipal authorities.
