In the municipality of Xoxtla, two police officers were killed while inside a patrol car. The Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) reported that these police officers were not registered and their trust control evaluations were not current.
According to the state agency, none of the municipal police were listed in the National Register of Public Security Personnel. This highlights the need for municipal authorities to approach the relevant bodies to register, credential, and evaluate their police force members.
The state government called on municipal authorities to reach out to the Secretariat of Public Security and the State Council for Coordination of the National Public Security System to regularize the situation of their police officers. Additionally, they reiterated their willingness to provide support and training to municipalities in processes related to their municipal police.
The SSP expressed its commitment to cooperate with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) in the investigation and clarification of this violent act. The police officers were attacked around 1:45 a.m. by an armed group that fired at least twenty times at the parked patrol near the pyramid located at the entrance of San Miguel Xoxtla, next to the Mexico-Puebla highway.
The head of the SSP, Daniel Cruz Luna, had previously mentioned that in the 217 municipalities of the region, at least one or two officers had their trust control evaluations. Additionally, an update was scheduled with the National Public Security System for October 15.
