Senate Advances Judicial Reform Process

On October 12, the Senate will deliver the lists and files of the individuals nominated to submit them to the National Electoral Institute. The parliamentary coordinator assured that the process of the Fourth Transformation will continue without any authority stopping it. This announcement comes after the approval of the call to elect ministers, magistrates, and judges in 2025 by the Senate of the Republic on October 16.

The Senate detailed that the three branches of government will install their evaluation committees on October 31. Meanwhile, the PT Parliamentary Group announced that it will request political trial against eight ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, whom it accuses of attacking democratic institutions and violating constitutional supremacy.

The legislator directly pointed to the ministers in question and argued that they have violated the principles of legality, loyalty, impartiality, and efficiency. Additionally, he emphasized that they have breached the Mexican Political Constitution. The deputy mentioned that only the reforming power can make modifications to the Constitution, and that the Court does not have the authority to review constitutional reforms.

On subsequent dates, it is expected that the process will continue with the selection of the best-evaluated profiles for each position on February 4. Furthermore, on November 4, the call for participation in the evaluation and selection process of candidates will be published. From November 5 to 24, the deadline will be to register for the calls issued by the evaluation committees.

By December 14, it will be verified that the candidates meet the constitutional eligibility requirements, and the following day the list of individuals who have met these requirements will be published. Finally, on January 31, 2025, the evaluation committees will assess the suitability of the eligible individuals.
