Sheinbaum on TV Azteca Arbitration Issue

The head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that her administration has not been notified about an arbitration against Mexico for alleged debts of TV Azteca. However, she emphasized that the lawsuit includes direct accusations against the Judiciary.

"Sheinbaum mentioned in her morning conference from Palacio Nacional that it is a very interesting topic and that she learned about the lawsuit through the newspaper Reforma," explained the official. So far, the Ministry of Economy has not communicated any information regarding this matter.

The president took the opportunity to point out that this is a lawsuit filed by American businessmen, where the Mexican Judiciary favored a person not to pay a debt in the United States. This case, according to Sheinbaum, implies shared responsibility of the Judiciary as stated in the lawsuit.

These comments create more tension in the dispute between the two powers triggered by the reform to the Judiciary, the opposition of judges, and the president's stance on the persistent corruption among justice providers.

According to the information disseminated, the investment funds Cyrus Capital Partners, L.P. and Contrarian Capital Management, LLC, have initiated arbitration against Mexico under the USMCA framework due to the refusal of Ricardo Salinas Pliego's company to settle its debts with these investors.
