INE to Continue Organization of Judicial Elections

The National Electoral Institute of Mexico (INE) confirmed it will proceed with the organization of the judicial elections scheduled for 2024-2025. The Electoral Tribunal deemed it unconstitutional to delay the electoral process, ensuring the INE fulfills its mission to guarantee electoral rights for Mexicans. The decision emphasizes clarity for the electoral process despite various suspensions by the judiciary.

INE to Continue Organization of Judicial Elections

The National Electoral Institute (INE) has confirmed that it will proceed with the organization of the scheduled judicial election, after the Electoral Tribunal ruled that it is unfeasible to suspend the planned judicial electoral process for next year. In a statement, the INE emphasized that the decision by the presiding magistrate Felipe de la Mata Pizaña establishes that the declarative resource requested by the Institute is appropriate, requiring a pronouncement to ensure compliance with its functions.

According to the resolution, it is constitutionally unfeasible to halt the execution of electoral procedures, which means that the organization of the judicial election for the 2024-2025 period must continue. The INE also noted that the resolution does not address the validity, legality, or effectiveness of the suspension actions or resolutions issued by various amparo judges, as those decisions are not the subject of this pronouncement.

This provides clarity and certainty for the INE to fulfill its responsibility to organize elections and safeguard the electoral political rights of Mexicans. On the other hand, councilor Dania Ravel expressed her disagreement with the statement issued by the INE regarding the resumption of organizing the election of judges, ministers, and magistrates, stating that she was not consulted on this matter and that it does not reflect her viewpoint regarding the determination issued by the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF.

The Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation declared that it is "constitutionally unfeasible" to stop the elections within the Judiciary in June 2025, allowing the INE to continue organizing the elections. With three votes in favor and two against, the Superior Chamber ruled the action requested by the INE to proceed with the preparation for the upcoming vote of ministers, judges, and magistrates as "appropriate." The decision highlights that the judges do not have the authority to resolve suspensions in electoral matters, confirming the continuity of the judicial electoral process.
