After the confirmation by the National Electoral Institute (INE) regarding the continuation of the Electoral Process of the Extraordinary Judiciary Elections of the Federation in 2024-2025, councilor Dania Ravel expressed her disagreement regarding the position of the electoral body. She stated that she was not consulted before the announcement was made and that what was said by INE does not reflect her viewpoint and interpretation regarding the definition of the Supreme Court's Specialized Administrative Chamber.
"This press release was not agreed upon with me, as a member of the INE Council, therefore it does not reflect my view and interpretation regarding the decision made by the Supreme Specialized Chamber of the Supreme Court," noted Dania Ravel.
The National Electoral Institute confirmed the continuation of the procedures for organizing the elections of judges and magistrates of the Supreme Court. The decision was made after the Supreme Specialized Chamber of the Representative Authority denied the procedural postponements against the judicial reform and allowed INE to continue organizing the election process through voting.
The proposal for the continuation of the electoral process was presented by Judge Felipe de la Mata and was approved by the votes of the presidents of TEPJF Monika Soto and Judge Felipe Alfredi Fuentes Barradas. Felipe de la Mata, in his position, noted that judges by their own authority do not have the rights to make decisions about postponements regarding the issue of the electoral character.
INE stated about its compliance with the decision of the Supreme Court's representative authority. The report indicates that constitutionally it is impossible to postpone acts related to the conducted electoral processes, which INE carries out.
At the beginning of October, the electoral institute addressed the Super Judicial Chamber (TEPJF) with a statement about the definition, whether further processes of the electoral process for selecting judges are valid after it was submitted not a few postponements against the judicial reform. The president of the institution, Guadalupe Taddei, reported that more than 140 notices about the postponement of elections scheduled for June 2025 were submitted. The electoral institute of the technical authorities confirmed its respect for the constitutional basis and its readiness to organize open, authentic, and transparent elections.
