A proposed judicial reform in Mexico has sparked intense political debates. Key party leaders express conflicting views, revealing underlying tensions within the government. Critics warn that the changes may threaten human rights.

Controversial Judicial Reform Sparks Political Tensions

The controversy surrounding the reform of the Judiciary in Mexico has sparked strong reactions from various political figures.

Alejandro González from the PT argued that this measure curbs the "excesses" of citizens and judges against this reform. However, the leader of the Green Party, Arturo Escobar, stated that they would not support this reform, leading to an even more intense debate.

Claudia Sheinbaum herself also spoke out on the matter, dismissing the opinions of certain legislators.

In the context of this discussion, several judges and magistrates have expressed their support for the reform, showing their intentions to compete in elections and continue in their positions. It has been pointed out that these actions could be interpreted as an early campaign backed by certain political groups.

Senate committees have discussed the constitutional reform promoted by Adán Augusto López, which aims to prevent obstacles such as injunctions, controversies, and actions of unconstitutionality against constitutional reforms.

Since the initiative was announced, legal experts, academics, and civil organizations have expressed their concerns, warning about possible risks to human rights if the reform is approved.

Despite the criticisms and the controversy raised, the initiative continues its course and will be discussed in the Senate plenary, after Adán Augusto López announced that a "fast-track" would be applied at the request of the Green Party.

Amid these discussions, the original proposal has been adjusted, allowing the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation to still analyze challenges against the reform of the Judiciary.
