The President Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, along with some councilors of the Judiciary and her closest collaborators, were locked in by workers of the Federal Judicial Power (PJF) in the building of the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) on the night of October 23. This happened after the plenary of the CJF voted four in favor and three against returning to normal activities.
The councilors who voted against the resolution and remained locked in were President Minister Norma Piña, councilor Lilia Mónica López Benítez, and councilor José Alfonso Montalvo Martínez, who were accompanied by Sergio Javier Molina Martínez and Celia Maya, who voted in favor. Among those who voted in favor of sanctioning the striking workers were councilor Bernardo Bátiz and councilor Eva Verónica de Gyvés, who managed to evade the lock-in.
Around midnight, the councilors were finally released when the workers removed the locks from the access points to the CJF building. The possibility of requesting assistance from the public forces was considered, as keeping the authorities locked in could be considered a crime. The workers relented and allowed the exit of all people present in the premises.
Despite the release of the officials, it is expected that the workers will continue protesting to show their discontent with the approval of the judicial reform. If the employees refuse to return to work, they will face the administrative sanctions provided for in the Organic Law of the PJF.
