Judges Resume Work Amidst Continued Discontent

The National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Judiciary of the Federation (Jufed) has announced that it will resume work until Monday, October 28. This decision is made in response to the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF), which has ordered that as of today, Thursday, all judicial workers must lift the strike.

Judges and magistrates have expressed their concern regarding the lack of resolution from the CJF to the requests of the workforce and the heads of the Judiciary. If they do not receive a prompt response, they reserve the right to suspend work again. Furthermore, they have requested that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) definitively resolve the legal challenges against the judicial reform.

In a statement, Jufed emphasized that the decision to return to work does not imply a renunciation of their rejection of the judicial reform or the actions of the Executive and Legislative Powers that they consider detrimental to the rights and guarantees of Mexicans. They have also urged the CJF to fulfill its role as an administrative body, respect the autonomy and independence of the Judiciary, and respond to the requests from associations of adjudicators that remain unanswered.

For its part, the Federal Judiciary Council has ordered that judicial personnel resume their duties starting today, Thursday, October 24. It is established that those who do not attend work will be subject to deductions and disciplinary measures. Additionally, the Security area is instructed to support judges and magistrates who require access to the premises.
