The Senate of the Republic of Mexico approved with 81 votes in favor and 36 against the request that President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo maintain the reform of the Judiciary in the Official Diary of the Federation (DOF). This decision was confirmed by the president of the Senate's board of directors, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, who proposed that the Judicial Law remain published in the DOF.
For his part, the senator from Movimiento Ciudadano, Clemente Castañeda, stated that they seek to hold senators jointly responsible for the contempt of the president. In the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, president of the board of directors, pointed out that it is impossible to revoke or eliminate the reform due to the lack of legal basis to disregard an order that contradicts the constitutional mandate.
Nancy Juárez Salas, a District Judge who gave an ultimatum to the president to withdraw the publication related to the reform of the Judiciary, denounced that since the issue gained relevance, she has been subjected to pressures. In her request to Sheinbaum Pardo, she asked for the elimination of the publication of the reform decree signed by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the Official Diary of the Federation.
During the discussion in the Senate, PAN member Marko Cortés expressed that it is not for the Senate to whitewash the situation of contempt for Judge Juárez's order, while Morena member Lucía Trasviña proposed the detention and trial of the judge. On the other hand, PRI members Claudia Anaya and Carolina Viggiano agreed in deeming the consultation as illegal.
