The Senate session on Thursday resulted in the approval of a reform that prevents the Judiciary from reviewing amendments to the Constitution. The bill received 85 votes in favor and 41 against, securing the qualified majority thanks to the Morena, PT, and Green Party.
The debate on the reform regarding the immunity of additions or amendments to the Federal Constitution began at 20:15 in the third session of the Senate. There was an exchange of arguments for and against, but near midnight, the opposition protested the lack of attention and decided to take to the podium, bringing banners and a loudspeaker in an attempt to halt the progress of the debate, shouting slogans against what they called "dictatorship."
Despite the protest, the majority of Morena continued with the session with the aim of reaching the key votes. After approximately an hour from the start of the protest, where the Morena legislators withdrew their interventions and the few opposition legislators who intervened were not attended to, the session concluded at 12:45.
The bill approved in the Senate will now be sent to the Chamber of Deputies to continue the legislative process and be submitted to a vote in that instance.
