The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has declared that the explosions of two car bombs in the state of Guanajuato cannot be classified as "narcoterrorism". According to Sheinbaum, it is a dispute between criminal groups over territory and drugs, and not an act of terrorism. Mexico's Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, also indicated that what happened in Jerécuaro and Acámbaro should not be considered an act of terrorism, but rather a confrontation between criminal gangs.
In a press conference, Sheinbaum announced that next Tuesday reports on security in Guanajuato and Guerrero will be made public, where recently a security operation resulted in the death of two agents and fourteen members of an armed group. It is important to highlight that three police officers were injured, one of them seriously, during the events that took place in those regions.
The Mexican leader explained that these violent actions have roots in territorial disputes and drug control among criminal organizations, dismissing the label of "narcoterrorism". The focus of the Mexican authorities is on conflict between criminal groups rather than terrorism, and more detailed information about the events that occurred in those areas in recent hours is expected.
