PAN Calls for International Attention on Mexico's Government

Marko Cortés Mendoza of PAN urges the international community to observe what he deems as legal violations by the Morena government, alleging authoritarian practices under President Claudia Sheinbaum.

PAN Calls for International Attention on Mexico's Government

The national president of the PAN, Marko Cortés Mendoza, has called on the international community to pay attention to what he considers "violations of the law" by the Morena government. Cortés accused President Claudia Sheinbaum of "obstructing the opposition" and fostering "a dictatorial government." The PAN leader announced that they will file complaints with organizations in the United States and the European Parliament to expose what they perceive as a "subjugation of the powers of the Union" and the "imposition of laws through an artificial majority."

In his statement, Cortés Mendoza expressed his concern about the situation in Mexico, ensuring that the country is on alert due to rampant violence and drug terrorism in several regions, situations that, according to him, the government denies. He added that they seek to prevent Mexico from following in the footsteps of Venezuela and Cuba, arguing that the current administration is based on questionable practices such as the buying and threatening of legislators, as well as the repression of those who think differently.

The president of the PAN criticized Sheinbaum's actions for continuing with "authoritarian" policies that, in his view, curtail human rights. He highlighted a recent event in the Senate where, he claimed, Morena imposed reforms without consensus or dialogue, which he considers a move towards authoritarianism. Cortés mentioned the 46% increase in the cost of electing ministers and judges for 2024, as well as the threat to Judicial Power workers with their forced return to their positions.

In conclusion, Cortés Mendoza urged the international community to pay attention to Mexico to prevent, in his opinion, the establishment of an authoritarian regime. He emphasized the paradox of those who fought for democracy and who, according to him, are now trying to impose a dictatorship through Morena.
