The government of Puebla took control of security in the municipality of Xoxtla following the assassination of two police officers on October 22. In response to this event, Governor Sergio Céspedes Peregrina urged municipalities to promote the certification of their police commanders to ensure better control of their security bodies.
The governor informed that, after the homicide, the police officers of the area submitted their resignation, which led the state government to take immediate action. In coordination with the mayor of Xoxtla, Guadalupe Ortiz Pérez, a group of state commanders was sent to reinforce security in the municipality.
The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) detected that in 30 municipalities of the state there are police officers who lack the necessary documentation to perform their duties, preventing them from accessing benefits such as social security. In response, municipal governments have been urged to regularize the situation of their personnel as soon as possible.
The governor highlighted that his administration will continue to promote the certification of police commanders in the 217 municipalities of the entity, as local authorities have the necessary resources to assume this responsibility and hire better-trained personnel. Coordination is in place with the mayors of Chignahuapan and Venustiano C.
Regarding security and governance in Venustiano Carranza and Chignahuapan, Céspedes Peregrina indicated that coordination will be maintained with mayors Antonio Valencia Ávila and Juan Lira Maldonado, respectively, to ensure peace in their municipalities. He recalled that both mayors have already taken office following the resolution of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), which revoked the annulment of their elections ordered by the local tribunal.
Finally, the governor assured that his administration will work in coordination with municipal presidents, respecting the legal framework and complying with the resolutions of the electoral authorities.
