Morena Confirms Budget for Judicial Elections

The National Regeneration Movement (Morena) confirmed that there is a budget available for the elections of magistrates, judges, and ministers of the Federal Judiciary (PJF). According to President Luisa María Alcalde, accumulated trust funds from the PJF over the years will now, with the recent judicial reform, be directed to the people.

Luisa María Alcalde expressed her confidence that the National Electoral Institute (INE), responsible for planning, will ensure the proper management of these resources. The constitutional reform establishes that the funding for the election must come from the PJF's trust funds, which amount to more than 20 billion pesos.

In statements to the press, Alcalde mentioned: 'There should be no concern because the trust continues and there are more than 20 billion pesos there. At the time it was projected, I remember, approximately 7 billion, so let's see, it needs to be evaluated. The important thing is that people can participate and be well-informed because there has been a lot of manipulation in the information.'

On the other hand, the National Electoral Institute (INE) postponed the discussion on the cost of organizing the judicial election and approved a preliminary budget proposal for 2025 totaling 27 billion 271 million pesos, which includes a allocation for a possible public consultation next year. Although the election is scheduled for June 2025 and will require additional expenses, this allocation has not yet been approved.

The estimated budget for the judiciary election amounts to more than 12 billion 936.4 million pesos, making it the most expensive election in history, surpassing the expenses of the 2022 elections. Of the total of 27 billion 271 million pesos approved, 15 billion 296 million were allocated for the daily operation of the INE, 7 billion 352 million to political parties, and 4 billion 621 million for the public consultation. Additionally, the organization of local elections in Durango and Veracruz is also planned.
