Sheinbaum Addresses Abortion Case in Morning Conference

President Claudia Sheinbaum led her 'morning' conference this Monday, October 28, from the National Palace, accompanied by the Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel. When questioned about the case of a girl in Querétaro who suffered a miscarriage after being raped, Sheinbaum informed that the Secretariat of Women is addressing the case and providing support to the minor and her family. The president emphasized the importance of not criminalizing the 14-year-old girl and assured that updates on the case would continue to be provided.

The Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, announced that in the coming days, the payment schedule for the Senior Citizens' Welfare Pension for the November-December 2024 two-month period will be announced. This schedule is expected to be revealed next Monday, November 4. Montiel also informed about the progress in delivering welfare support and detailed the changes for the benefits to be granted at a constitutional level. A total of 766,825 senior women have been registered as beneficiaries of the Women's Welfare Pension program.

On the other hand, the president responded to criticisms from Claudio X. González, celebrating the approval of constitutional reforms to protect and expand women's rights. After meeting with activist Malala Yousafzai, Sheinbaum shared the topics discussed during the meeting. The president ruled out that the recorded acts of violence in Técpan de Galeana, Guerrero, and Acámbaro and Jerécuaro, Guanajuato, should be considered as acts of 'terrorism.'
