Several officials have lost their lives in recent months, which has raised concern in the community and among security forces. It is expected that the ongoing investigation will identify and capture those responsible. Only two months after the former mayor of Angamacutiro and current councilor in the municipality of Penjamillo, Maribel Juárez Blanquet, was kidnapped, Lizbeth Romero Tafolla, director of Public Security in the municipality of Angamacutiro, was executed at her doorstep.
The violent incident took place on Nicolás Bravo street, in the downtown area, on the morning of Monday, October 28. According to police reports, an armed individual knocked on Romero Tafolla's door around 7:10 AM. Once on the scene, patrol officers and paramedics confirmed her death and cordoned off the area. Physical evidence indicating the presence of a projectile and a spent casing was found on the ground.
The mayor of Angamacutiro, Hermes Pacheco, confirmed the tragic news and admitted he was unaware if the Security Director had received threats prior. The Attorney General's Office of Michoacán has initiated an investigation related to this homicide. This murder is added to the execution of the mayor of Cotija, Aurelio Santos, which occurred on the same day. According to investigations, Lizbeth Romero was shot in the head. The perpetrator, a man not yet identified, fled the scene on a motorcycle to an unknown destination.
According to close associates of the official, since the previous day, two individuals on motorcycles had been looking for her to "deliver a gift." Residents, upon hearing the shots, alerted the authorities via the emergency number.
