Debate on State Debt for the 2025 Budget

The president of the local Congress, Lorena de la Garza, before her meeting with the state treasurer Carlos Garza Ibarra, revealed that they are evaluating the possibility of backing a debt in the 2025 Budget. She explained that the Congress had previously rejected a debt of up to 15,000 million pesos for the 2024 Budget, as the presentation of the budget for 2025 was approaching.

In this regard, De la Garza mentioned: "The debt was proposed for the 2024 Budget, I don’t know if they want to add it in 2025, it will be interesting. We must analyze its operational viability and what projects are contemplated." She highlighted that they are willing to consider the approval of a debt in the upcoming budget, as long as it benefits both the main works of the Executive and the municipalities with projects related to the damages caused by Hurricane Alberto, the medical sector, among others.

The president of the local Congress expressed her hope that the new fiscal project includes a debt consistent with the projects across the state. She added: "It will depend on the projects that are presented. The government has three more years of administration. We must review what projects are proposed, why the increase in debt is needed and coordinate it with the mayors, as it is not only about the state's macroprojects. For example, we see the issue of reconstruction due to Hurricane Alberto, municipal clinics, ambulances."

It has been reported that there is a greater disposition from the PRI to negotiate with the Executive, especially from Heriberto Treviño, the party coordinator in Congress, who led the last meeting at the Palace. This position contrasts with other leaders like De la Garza Venecia or Carlos de la Fuente, who insist on putting pressure on the governor.

President De la Garza pointed out: "We expect to receive information. Last Friday, the treasurer was going to have a meeting with the Treasury Department to discuss the Federal Budget, and based on that, we will make decisions."
