Judicial Reform Moves Forward Despite Hurdles

Ricardo Monreal, leader of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, asserts that the judicial reform process will continue despite challenges from the Supreme Court. He emphasizes the legality of the reform, critiquing a proposal by Minister Juan Luis Alcántara to declare parts of it unconstitutional. Monreal argues that this would undermine democratic processes and insists on the need for reform in the judicial system to eliminate abuses of power.

Judicial Reform Moves Forward Despite Hurdles

The coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, stated that the judicial reform in Mexico will continue despite the obstacles that have arisen. Monreal emphasized that they will not halt the legislative process to establish limits in the Constitution in order to prevent "atrocities".

In this regard, Monreal criticized the proposal from Minister Juan Luis Alcántara Carranca to declare the election of judges and magistrates by popular vote unconstitutional, calling it an "illegal whim that violates the Political Constitution." According to the parliamentary leader, Minister Alcántara's project is arbitrary and illegal, as it goes against legality, jurisprudence, and doctrine.

Monreal defended the election of judges and pointed out that a minister does not have the authority to nullify a reform to the Constitution. He highlighted that the fight against the status quo within the Judiciary aims to eliminate privileges and vices, despite the controversial actions of some judges against him.

The leader of Morena asserted that the judicial reform is a citizen demand to put an end to the abuses and excesses in the administration of justice in Mexico. Monreal rejected that citizens' rights are being violated and emphasized that, although they can challenge laws, resources will not proceed in constitutional reforms.
