Claudia Sheinbaum Defends Judicial Reform Against Opposition

President Claudia Sheinbaum once again rejected the legal protections filed by political parties against the controversial reform to the Judiciary. During her morning conference on Tuesday from the National Palace, Sheinbaum pointed out that the parties do not have legal standing to file protections for constitutional changes, so she believes that the previously submitted resources should not have been accepted by state and local judges to halt their approval and publication.

In this regard, the head of government expressed her opposition to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), reminding that it cannot legislate on constitutional changes, as it would exceed its powers. Sheinbaum expressed her concern about the situation, stating that legislation is being made based on protections filed by entities without legal standing, such as political parties.

Recently, the Parliamentary Group of the National Action Party in the Senate obtained a new suspension of the reform to the Judiciary, granted by a court in Yucatán. The suspension was granted at the request of Senator Mayuli Latifa Martínez Simón from Quintana Roo and establishes that authorities must refrain from executing or applying the reformed provisions, as well as suspending the Electoral Process and prohibiting the continuation of the call to designate winners of the election.

In summary, a legal conflict remains regarding the reform to the Judiciary, with conflicting positions among political parties, the SCJN, and Claudia Sheinbaum, who insists that the protections filed lack legal basis.
