Cynthia López Castro Resigns from the PRI

Senator Cynthia López Castro announced her resignation from the bench of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) following her absence from an important vote that allowed Morena to obtain a majority to approve an initiative. In a press conference, López Castro explained that she has not had conversations with any other party to join their bench after leaving the PRI, indicating that she will remain an independent legislator for the moment.

The senator mentioned that her decision to resign from the PRI is due to differences with the current leadership, specifically with Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno, the party leader and senator. She expressed that the party has become a place where dissent is not allowed and that those who disagree or vote differently are expelled.

López Castro pointed out that her absence from the vote was for health reasons and reiterated that she will not allow political violence against her from her own party. She asserted that if she had the opportunity to vote again in the same situation, she would vote against the initiative, highlighting that she will continue to vote for what benefits the people and against what harms the electorate.

The senator also emphasized that, despite the criticisms received, her principles and values have not changed and that her commitment remains firm to those who placed their trust in her. Cynthia López Castro is the second senator to leave the PRI bench, following the separation from Manlio Fabio Beltrones.
