Puebla Governor Calls for Impartial Human Rights Commission Leader

The governor of Puebla, Sergio Céspedes Peregrina, stated that the next head of the State Human Rights Commission (CDH) should have a profile with solid knowledge in the field and should not be linked to political parties. He highlighted the importance of the selected person being impartial and focusing on protecting human rights without favoring political interests.

In an interview, the state leader stressed the need for sensitivity, objectivity, and prioritizing human rights at all times, considering current circumstances. The election process for the new ombudsperson is in the hands of the Legislative Power, so he urged the deputies to conduct a thorough analysis of the presented profiles.

Céspedes emphasized that what is required in the commission are not "friends of the government," but individuals who prioritize respect for society. He committed to respecting the decisions of Congress as long as the candidates meet the criteria of responsibility, sensitivity, and knowledge in human rights.

The hearings for the position of head of the CDH have begun in the State Congress, where the current head, Félix Cerezo Vélez, presented himself to run again. Despite criticism for his poor performance in the position, the salary increase in the last five years, and his application to head the national organization, he was not questioned about it during the open question process to society.
