Ricardo Aldana Reelected as Leader of Oil Workers Union

Yesterday after eight in the evening, the National Electoral Commission of the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic (STPRM) announced that the green slate, led by Ricardo Aldana, won the union elections with 82% of the votes. María Cristina Alonso García also contested the union secretary position and reported irregularities during the electoral process.

Ricardo Aldana was reelected as leader of the oil workers' union by a majority of votes, a mandate that will extend until 2025. Aldana took office after the departure of Carlos Romero Deschamps, who was in power for over 20 years and faced corruption allegations.

During his first term, Aldana managed to negotiate labor benefits and improve working conditions for employees, despite tensions with Octavio Romero. His management was controversial due to his closeness to Romero Deschamps and his involvement in the corruption scandal known as Pemexgate, as he was treasurer at that time.

Aldana announced that he would modify the statutes so that the general secretary will be subject to revocation every three years, thus fulfilling his promise to introduce greater democracy in the election of union leaders. It is expected that with Aldana's reelection, the relationship between the oil workers' union and the new Pemex director, Víctor Rodríguez, will improve significantly.
