The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, responded to the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, who expressed surprise at the lack of celebration by the Mexican State following the arrest of leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, such as Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada. Salazar questioned the request for explanations from the Attorney General of the Republic to the Government in Washington regarding the circumstances of the drug lord's arrest.
In a press conference, Salazar expressed his astonishment and mentioned the need to recognize the joint work carried out in the last three years between Mexico and the United States. These statements came after Mexico's Attorney General, Alejandro Gertz, requested information from the United States about what he referred to as the 'kidnapping' of 'El Mayo' Zambada on July 25.
In this regard, Sheinbaum expressed her disagreement with how the arrest was conducted, emphasizing that the ends do not justify the means. The president stressed that this principle should apply not only in the case of drug traffickers but also in matters of human rights and the rule of law, highlighting that the way actions are conducted is fundamental, not just the outcome.
Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of considering the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States in operations of this nature, underscoring the need to explain how the alleged 'kidnapping' of the drug trafficker took place in El Paso, Texas. In this regard, she urged taking the Mexican Government into account in such actions to ensure transparency and respect for the laws of both nations.
