The Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJN), Margarita Ríos Farjat, announced her resignation on October 30, stating that she will not accept the corresponding pension despite her acquired rights. In a statement, she expressed her decision to leave the position due to the recent constitutional reform that she considers problematic.
Ríos Farjat will remain in her position until August 31, 2025, despite government pressure to resign earlier due to changes in the SCJN pension rules, which require resignation before completing 15 years in office to access these benefits.
The Minister explained that the new constitutional reform contradicts what was previously established, as it only guarantees pensions to those who resign before a certain deadline, which she considers unfair and complicated. In light of this situation, she decided to submit her resignation to maintain her labor rights intact, including pensions and other benefits.
In her statement, Margarita Ríos Farjat made it clear that her decision not to accept the monthly pension is due to her desire to preserve her dignity and personal freedom, marking a gesture of consistency with her principles.
