New Director of INEA in Mexico

Armando Contreras Castillo has been appointed as the head of the National Institute for Adult Education (INEA) by the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo. The appointment, signed by the President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, instructs Contreras to perform the role with responsibility, commitment, and love for the people.

In this context, Mario Delgado Carrillo congratulated Contreras wishing him success in his new role and emphasized that he trusts that under his leadership great results will be achieved in the fight against educational lag in the country. Delgado Carrillo also mentioned that Armando Contreras is a teacher committed to the democratic causes of the most needy and that he now has the task of combating illiteracy and educational lag.

The INEA, which has been in existence for 43 years, has benefited 28 million Mexicans, but an educational lag still affects 27.5 million people in the country. The institute is responsible for providing attention to people who cannot read or write, as well as primary and secondary education, with national coverage. The INEA coordinates efforts with 26 decentralized state institutes and 6 operational units, managing to rescue approximately 500,000 people from educational lag each year.

In this regard, both the Secretary of Public Education and Armando Contreras agreed that the fight for a nation free of illiteracy is a priority task and that, under Contreras' leadership, significant progress is expected in addressing and eradicating educational lag in Mexico.
