Proposal of electoral councilors before the Court

Six electoral councilors in Mexico have submitted a proposal to go before the Court, seeking to prevent Guadalupe Taddei from making key appointments in the electoral body.

Six electoral councilors have presented a proposal to go before the Court and prevent Guadalupe Taddei, the newly appointed president councilor of the INE, from making key appointments in the National Electoral Institute.

The proposal, drafted by Carla Humphrey, Uuc-kib Espadas, Jaime Rivera, Martín Francisco Faz, Adriana Favela, and Patricia Martínez, argues that Taddei's appointment was illegitimate, as it was made without consensus and with violations of the regulations.

The councilors supporting this proposal argue that Taddei's arrival at the INE may threaten the impartiality and autonomy of this organization by granting her the ability to influence the appointments of key individuals, such as the executive secretary, the executive director of Electoral Organization, the head of the Technical Unit for Oversight, and the head of the Specialized Attorney for Electoral Crimes (Fepade).

According to the councilors, allowing Taddei to make these appointments could compromise the independence and neutrality of the INE, resulting in irreversible harm to Mexican democracy. For this reason, they consider it essential for the Court to intervene to ensure legality and transparency in the process of appointing officials in the National Electoral Institute.
