Claudia Sheinbaum Announces Ongoing Dialogues with CNTE

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced that dialogues with the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (CNTE) will continue after a first formal meeting, as there are still "pending issues" to address. During her morning conference from the National Palace, she announced that it was agreed to review five points related to the labor conditions imposed by the education reform approved by former President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Sheinbaum mentioned that the CNTE claims that there are pending issues from the previous education reform, particularly regarding punitive aspects and permanence in the system that were eliminated thanks to the regularizations. She noted that the points raised coincide with the requests of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), and both organizations are being addressed by the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado.

Additionally, the importance of social security and medical care for teachers was emphasized, and periodic meetings will be held, including topics related to ISSSTE. Yenny Aracely Pérez Martínez, general secretary of section 22 of the CNTE, mentioned that aspects such as the ISSSTE Law, decent wages for all teachers, cases of dismissed teachers, and those whose rights were not respected were discussed during the meeting.

In the afternoon of the same Thursday, Sheinbaum met with representatives of the CNTE to review the progress made during the previous six-year term and to lay the groundwork for dialogue between the Executive Power and the Coordinating Committee during the period 2024-2030.
