Claudia Sheinbaum Responds to Dismissal Speculations

President Claudia Sheinbaum requested calm amidst speculation about a possible dismissal in case of noncompliance with the resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), following statements from retired minister José Ramón Cossío. During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum pointed out that comments regarding her dismissal brush against "the limit of speaking about a coup d'état".

The president accused some ministers of the Court of provoking with their decisions and warned about the intention to initiate political trials against those who attempt to accuse her government of authoritarianism.

A few days ago, retired minister José Ramón Cossío warned that in case of disobeying the SCJN ruling, both Claudia Sheinbaum and the deputies and senators could be dismissed. This situation would arise if they do not comply with the project of minister Luis González Alcántara Carranca, which proposes partially invalidating the judicial reform.

Cossío explained in an interview with Radio Fórmula that the dismissal of Sheinbaum could proceed without the need for a vote in the Congress of the Union, as it is a power that the SCJN does not consider subject to review by the Chamber or by the Attorney General's Office. According to Cossío, based on Fraction 16 of Article 107 of the Constitution and its applications to Article 105, "they could consider the removal and the submission to trial of those who disobey the ruling."
