Detention of Zhi Dong Zhang for money laundering in Cuajimalpa

Zhi Dong Zhang, a Chinese citizen, was arrested in Cuajimalpa, Mexico, following a U.S. extradition order for drug trafficking and money laundering. Mexican authorities, along with the SSPC and the FGR, carried out the operation in the Lomas de Santa Fe neighborhood.

A citizen of Chinese origin, Zhi Dong Zhang, was arrested in the Santa Fe area, Cuajimalpa borough, during a joint operation by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the Secretariats of the Navy (Semar) and National Defense (Sedena). The capture occurred in a residential area of Santa Fe located less than a kilometer from the main headquarters of the FGR, near the Mexico-Toluca highway.

Zhi Dong Zhang is accused of laundering 150 million dollars from drug trafficking. Furthermore, Mexican authorities identified that he was moving and hiding in high-value areas of the State of Mexico and Mexico City until he was located in a property located in the Lomas de Santa Fe neighborhood of Cuajimalpa.

According to case FID 11458937 filed in Atlanta, Georgia, Zhi Dong has an arrest warrant for international extradition due to his probable responsibility in the commission of crimes of organized crime for importing, international distribution of cocaine, and money laundering. He is accused of exporting, transporting, and distributing large quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamines in the United States and other countries.

To conceal his identity, Zhi Dong Zhang used up to eight different aliases or nicknames. After confirming his identity, the arrest warrant for extradition to the United States was executed, and he was made available to a federal judge to determine his legal situation according to the extradition procedures provided by Mexican law.

Additionally, according to information from the SSPC, Zhi Dong is also said to have alliances with the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), for which the United States government requested Mexico to execute an arrest warrant for extradition against him.
