Tension in Mexican Senate During Constitutional Reform Debate

Senator Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno was involved in a confrontation with the President of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, during the declaration of a constitutional reform aimed at protecting itself from the Judiciary. At the beginning of the session, the opposition requested to intervene, but Fernández Noroña decided to prioritize the reform. Once the legislative process was concluded, Fernández Noroña was forced to give the floor to the legislators, unleashing a new debate among the political forces.

Tensions escalated when Fernández Noroña attempted to adjourn the session, using the majority of Morena to vote that the issue had been sufficiently discussed. At that moment, the PRI member became angry interpreting that the legislators would be silenced after the vote. He climbed to the podium, receiving gestures and a hand touch from Fernández Noroña, who responded with a call for mutual respect and shouts.

Legislators from Morena went to the podium to support Noroña, while Senator Lucía Trasviña was forced to elbow her way through.
