During the legislative session on Thursday, October 31, in the Senate, a heated discussion erupted between the national leader of the PRI, Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno, and the President of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña. The situation reached its peak when Moreno took the podium and became embroiled in a exchange of reproaches with Noroña, who remained seated.
At one point in the discussion, both senators' arms collided, unleashing Noroña's anger, who angrily demanded: "Don't shout at me! You did it fifty times! I came to ask for the floor." In the face of escalating tension, Senator Lucía Trasviña Waldenrath had to intervene, positioning herself between the two senators to calm the tempers.
The reasons for the confrontation stemmed from 'Alito' Moreno's discontent with the constitutional supremacy reform approved by Fernández Noroña, President of the Senate. Furthermore, the opposition between both politicians, as Noroña is an ally of the PT-Morena coalition and Moreno leads the PRI, contributed to fueling the flame of discord.
Before the incident, some PRI senators attempted to intervene in the debate and encountered resistance from Noroña, prompting 'Alito' Moreno to take the podium to assert his right to speak. "We have always respected you to give us the floor," Moreno mentioned at the beginning of the confrontation. The tense discussion surprised those present due to the intensity of the reproaches exchanged by both politicians under the attentive gaze of the other senators.
