Document Theft in Chiapas Increases Citizen Distrust

The theft of documents from the Superior Audit Office of Chiapas has generated distrust among citizens towards Governor Rutilio Escandón Cadenas, who will conclude his term on December 8. The removal of packets of documents over the weekend from the transparency authority's facilities, including recent audit reports on state institutions, adds to the criticisms against the administration led by the Morena politician.

Citizens in Chiapas express concern about the disappearance of documents related to the public account just weeks before the end of a six-year term characterized by insecurity and loss of control in all regions of the state. The Superior Audit Office of the State (ASE) reported that among the items stolen during the robbery by individuals who broke into the institution's facilities are three computer equipment.

The state Congress has firmly condemned the events and called for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible, underscoring the importance of preserving accountability in a democracy. The state Prosecutor's Office has initiated the corresponding investigations to determine the responsibility of those guilty of the theft of the boxes with information.

Although authorities have assured that the facts will be clarified and those responsible will be brought to justice, many Chiapas citizens remain doubtful about the outcome of the investigations, given the history of opacity associated with the government of Rutilio Escandón Cadenas.
