Controversy over re-election in the CNDH

Gerardo Fernández Noroña speaks out about the re-election of Rosario Piedra Ibarra in the CNDH. Despite the criticisms, Morena supports her candidacy amid internal disagreements.

Controversy over re-election in the CNDH

Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Senate's board, expressed his disagreement with the possible reelection of Rosario Piedra Ibarra as president of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH). Fernández Noroña mentioned that he considered the way the situation was being handled unnecessary and even mistreatment, given that the current head, despite her position, was not even on the shortlist for the vote.

The agenda for the session included the vote to renew the presidency of the CNDH, where Rosario Piedra Ibarra seeks reelection, competing with Nashieli Ramírez and Paulina Hernández. Javier Corral is the only senator from Morena who has expressed his opposition to the reelection, stating that he did not see an issue with the principle of reelection. He did not believe there was a directive from the Executive in favor of the president.

Alejandro Moreno, president of the PRI, criticized the senators from Morena for following the instructions of President López Obrador regarding the vote. According to Fernández Noroña, the allegations of instructions from the former president are merely "intrigue" against him.

Despite the discrepancies, Morena and its allies expressed their support for the reelection of Rosario Piedra Ibarra, stating that a consensus around her figure is being built. If the election with two-thirds of votes is not achieved in the first rounds, the issue will be included in the agenda for the following day. Higinio Martínez and Manuel Huerta from Morena have also expressed their opposition to the reelection.

The president of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, considered it a good indicator that even in the opposition there is disagreement with the reelection. Adán Augusto López Hernández and Javier Corral have discussed the issue extensively, expressing their disagreement with the possible reelection. Saúl Monreal, also from the Human Rights Commission, anticipates results in the session on November 12.
