The election of the Judiciary in 2025 will feature an innovative process that will include a 'boletota' with 81 candidates for ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), reported former SCJN minister, Arturo Zaldívar.
Zaldívar, who is a member of the Evaluation Committee for the judiciary elections, detailed that this process provides the opportunity for judicial officials in the states to access positions as judges, magistrates, and even ministers.
The first stage of the election process remains open for registration until November 24. In the second phase, candidates who meet the requirements will be evaluated by committees from each branch: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, which will select the most suitable and qualified profiles, both technically and personally.
The finalists of this stage will undergo public hearings and interviews, which will be broadcasted through official channels such as Congress or Justice TV of the Judiciary. This step aims to allow citizens to observe the level and quality of the profiles being interviewed.
Then, each committee will choose one person for each ministerial position, who will be subjected to a random selection process to narrow down to 3 nominees from each branch, totaling 81 candidates to choose 9 ministers of the Supreme Court.
Zaldívar emphasized the importance of this process as a great opportunity for young people to start a career in the administration of justice. The candidate who receives the highest number of votes will be appointed president of the Court for the first two years of their term.
