The president of the Coyotitán Cattle Ranchers Association, Ramón Alberto Velázquez Ontiveros, was found dead after being kidnapped. According to reports, the rancher was deprived of his liberty by armed individuals last Tuesday in Higueras de Abuya. His body was found alongside the Mexico-Nogales highway, in Elota, near El Espinal, with signs of torture and bullet wounds, next to a cardboard sign whose message has not yet been revealed.
In February of this year, Velázquez was reaffirmed in his position in Coyotitán, part of San Ignacio, Sinaloa. Subsequently, he was shot dead in the Alameda Park of Culiacán. Journalist Anabel Hernández mentioned that the rancher leader, who was also a local deputy for the PRI, had connections with Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, founder of the Sinaloa Cartel.
According to Hernández, Velázquez joined Morena and allegedly helped Zambada in his illicit activities and to legitimize businesses, as well as to obtain public resources for livestock. Despite his past with the PRI, he joined Claudia Sheinbaum's campaign at the request of Rubén Rocha Moya, governor of Sinaloa, and belonged to the Regional Federation of Cattle Ranchers of Sinaloa, where he was a delegate of the Specialized Cattle Ranchers Association of Culiacán. On September 30, Faustino Hernández Álvarez, president of the same cattle ranchers' union, was assassinated.
"He campaigned in favor of Claudia Sheinbaum, he campaigned in favor of other Morena candidates," Hernández added about the political activities of the deceased rancher leader.
