Minutes later, Rosario Piedra Ibarra appeared in the plenary hall to once again assume the position at the head of the National Commission of Human Rights (CNDH). This Tuesday morning, Morena and its allies agreed to support the candidate, despite being the worst rated in the entire process. It is noted that she has replicated the federal government's discourse but has not defended human rights in the face of situations such as militarization, according to human rights organizations.
Piedra Ibarra used a fake letter to support her nomination; however, neither she nor the CNDH took responsibility for this fact. Criticism of her performance and the role of the National Commission of Human Rights was dismissed by Morena as "attacks from the right."
Regarding the profile of Rosario Piedra Ibarra, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Master's in Psychopedagogy. She has experience in defending human rights, both in public institutions and through activism. She is one of the founders of the “EUREKA committee” and has promoted the “National Front against Repression and for Democratic Freedoms,” where various organizations have united in defense of human rights.
She has taught courses, workshops, diploma programs, and conferences on human rights, the search for the disappeared, and victims of the so-called “Dirty War.” She has collaborated with universities and national and international human rights organizations in this field.
Rosario Piedra obtained the necessary votes to remain at the helm of the National Commission of Human Rights for a second term. The final vote was 87 in favor of Piedra, 36 for Nashieli Ramírez, and 1 for Paulina Hernández, thus guaranteeing the qualified majority.
